Ginkgo leaves

At the next Square, there is a Ginkgo. It has very distinctive fan-shaped leaves, unlike those of any other tree, which turn yellow in autumn. Fossilised Ginkgo remains date from 250 million years ago. The tree has been planted since ancient times, in the temple gardens of China and Japan, and came to Europe in the 18th century. In Japan the fruits are fried for breakfast, and used as a hangover cure.
