Italian Alder
|
Opposite the turn into Denman Drive is an Italian Alder. The glossy green leaves taper to a point. In summer, the fruits are fat and green; when ripe, they are woody and cone-like. The male catkins are much larger than the female and can be seen, bright green, on the tree throughout the winter, before they ripen to pale purple in spring. The tree is native to Corsica and Southern Italy.
