In the garden of No:20 is a Common Hazel, which has pale green leaves and yellow catkins and, at No:21, a Copper Hazel with dark purple brown leaves and pink catkins. There is a superstition that a bunch of Hazel twigs taken into a baby’s bedroom will ensure the child’s eyes turn from blue to brown. Hazel twigs were also thought to cure warts.
