Horticultural Society - 281st Flower Show, and Fancy Dress Competitions on a royal theme for Juniors and Adults

  • Saturday 11 June 2016 from 3pm to 5:30pm
at Free Church Hall.
HGS Horticultural Society's traditional Summer show, bringing the sights and scents of the country to the town. Locally-grown flowers, fruit and veg. on show, together with displays of cooking, baking, photography and much more. To commemorate HM The Queen's 90th birthday, there is a royal theme running through many of the exhibits. Home-made teas, preserves table in aid of the North London Hospice (tbc). Enter yourself or admire the courage and exhibits of people competing for the very first time in a new 'First Timers' section. Perhaps you will be next and enter for the show in September! Entry free for members and under-18s; £2.00 for non-members. Also FANCY DRESS PARADE AND COMPETITION FOR CHILDREN AGED 0-16 YEARS: 'Royalty'. Dress up as a king, queen, prince or princess and come to the Free Church Hall garden to parade at 3.30pm (indoors if wet). To be judged at 3.30 by the new Mayor of Barnet, Cllr David Longstaff, who will also open the show. Prizes for all! AND FOR THE ADULTS (17+) MAD HATS COMPETITION: Design and wear a hat fit for a queen (to be judged after the fancy dress). Entry for both competitions is free (www.hortsoc.co.uk). Competition followed at 4pm by traditional PUNCH AND JUDY SHOW. The Free Church Hall consists of a big hall (with stage and annexe), a smaller one with some catering facilities, and some rooms. Availability is limited, no late parties or music. For bookings call 020 8883 1863.
