Highgate Gallery - Rhonda Whitehead - New and Recent Work

  • Friday 8 May 2015 to Thursday 21 May 2015
at Fellowship House.
Recesses, shutters, colours, stucco, underlying geometry – all are elements in the new work by Rhonda Whitehead, inspired by the action of nature and weathering in the built environment.

Gradual weathering accumulation and disintegration on surfaces in the built environment are all elements in these new works by Rhonda Whitehead.

Rhonda is returning to Highgate for her solo exhibition at Highgate Gallery.  She last exhibited with us in 1999, and in 1994 had the opening solo exhibition as she helped in the setting up of the gallery. This exhibition was enthusiastically reviewed by the Ham and High critic at the time, Linda Talbot.

Regular reviews from the Ham and High critics Alison Oldham, Helen Smithson and Linda Talbot have appeared for her solo and group exhibitions when exhibiting at the Highgate Contemporary Art gallery since 1994 (www.highgateart.com).

In this exhibition Rhonda Whitehead is exhibiting a previously unseen group of new works on paper and canvas.  Paintings are a wide range of colour, texture and elements of geometric forms in the built landscape of Europe.  As one critic Annie Forbes says, “Her latest exhibition in the New Hall Gallery at the Murray Edwards College confirms her as an artist at the height of her powers, gifted with an acute ability to perceive and record the details and nuances of her observed environment.  Whitehead shows a constant ability to locate solace even from the depths of decay.”
