This tour is based on "an architectural appreciation of the Garden Suburb" written for the Hampstead Garden Suburb conservation study and published in 1971. It is reproduced here with the kind permission of the Hampstead Garden Suburb Trust.

An architectural appreciation of the Suburb naturally divides itself into six parts:

  1. The Heath Extension and its flanking roads, including the approach from Golders Green station up Rotherwick Road
  2. The central squares and public buildings and the surrounding closes of larger houses
  3. The "north end" of artisan cottages approached from Finchley Road at temple Fortune or along Addison Way
  4. The later Suburb south of the A1
  5. The later Suburb north of the A1
  6. The Bishops Avenue and Winnington Road
