Proposals affecting listed buildings will be carefully scrutinised to ensure that the special qualities of the building are not compromised by the alteration. The principle to be applied when considering historic buildings is to retain in situ any feature wherever possible, and replace in facsimile where necessary. Due to the special nature of historic buildings, advice on the acceptability of alterations should be sought from the planning officers of the Council.
