LJCC - What’s the Point of Fasting? With Clive Lawton

  • Tuesday 30 September 2014 from 2pm to 4pm
at Ivy House .
£16 pre booked (£20 on the day)
All religions have some kind of self-denial – fasting means different things to different people, from Jewish one day blitzes, through weeks’ long abstinence from something enjoyable (for example Lent) to extended periods of solid self-denial (Ramadan). Even Buddhism, that appears to counsel kindness and moderation, ends up with some ascetic and challenging practices.

In this special, Clive will explore this widespread practice of self-denial and consider what people are supposed to get out of it.
