LJCC - Richard Strauss Day with Patrick Bade

  • Thursday 18 September 2014 from 10am to 3pm
at Ivy House .
£30 pre booked (£35 on the day)
In June of this year we will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Richard Strauss. In order to mark this, the LJCC will hold a one day event devoted to his life and his music.

In the morning there will be an overview of his musical career from Enfant terrible in the 1880s to the Grand Old Man of western music in the 1940s. We will explore his intense creative relationships with his librettists Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Stefan Zweig, the strange relationship with his domineering wife Pauline, as well as his complex and troubled relations with the Nazi regime.

In the afternoon we shall concentrate on his most enduringly popular opera Der Rosenkavalier.
